MAKURDI | In a bid to enhance campus security and safety in higher education institutions, renowned campus security expert, Shirsha Chia, has unveiled a comprehensive operational manual.
The book, titled “Campus Security Operational Manual,” was launched on September 25, 2024, at Empire Suites, Makurdi.
The event, which was well-attended by dignitaries, security experts, and education stakeholders, provided a platform for Chia to share his expertise on crime prevention, campus crisis management, and security protocols.
The book is a culmination of Chia’s extensive experience in school security, having served in critical positions in driven protection of schools and improvement of school security management.
In his remarks, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Benue State Command, Okon Asuquo, described the book as “apt” and “great material” for ensuring school safety.
He emphasized the need for adequate security measures in schools, citing the increasing cases of cultism and crime on campuses.
Also speaking at the event, the Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubarkar Audi, Mni OFR, represented by Deputy Commandant, NSCDC Benue State Command, B. Blessing, reiterated the importance of providing adequate security in schools.
He commended Chia for his efforts in producing a comprehensive guide for campus security.
Security Adviser to Benue State Governor, Joseph Har, who reviewed the book, described it as “critical” and “vital” for protecting students and society.
He noted that the book provides practical guidance on campus security, crisis management, and emergency response.
Other dignitaries who attended the event include the Vice Chancellor, Benue State University, Makurdi, Professor Joe Tor Iorapuu, represented by Professor Ochugudu Upele; the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, represented by John Baune, 2i/c State Intelligence Department; and the Zonal Director of NTA, Mr. Dung Pam, represented by Iveren Solomon, News Director.
The Chairlady of the occasion, Dr Hellen Awunnah who was represented by Willnifred Jor.
Chia, who holds a BSc. in Criminology and Security Studies, a BEd. in Guidance and Counseling, and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Criminology and Security Studies, expressed his commitment to supporting schools’ safety initiatives.
He noted that his extensive background in managing high-performing teams and implementing robust internal controls has equipped him to provide expert guidance on campus security.
The book, which is a valuable resource for students, teachers, and security personnel, provides practical guidance on: Crime prevention and campus safety, Crisis management and emergency response, Security protocols and procedures and as well Campus security management and administration.
With the launch of “Campus Security Operational Manual,” Chia has made a significant contribution to the field of campus security, providing a comprehensive guide for enhancing school safety and security.
