The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to commence work on the Jalingo-Numan Road, threatening a mass national protest if ignored.
NANS National President, Mr. Lucky Emonefe, described the road as one of the worst in the country, posing a significant threat to students’ lives, particularly in the North East region.
At the 3rd Inauguration Ceremony of the North East Zonal Executive Council in Jalingo, Emonefe warned that if the government fails to act, NANS would relocate its national secretariat from Abuja to the North East.
He called on the Federal Ministry of Works to order the contractor to return to the site and commence work immediately.
Emonefe commended Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba for his student-friendly policies, including free education and a 50% reduction in tuition fees for tertiary institutions.
He encouraged other governors to adopt similar education-focused initiatives.
Meanwhile, the newly sworn-in Coordinator of NANS in the North East, Mr. Umar Afkawa, pledged to improve student welfare, academic excellence, security, and empowerment in the region.
